Our work programme is guided by the tasks that have been given to us by kFW Development Bank and the responsible ministries in the three countries.
Support to national parks projects • We are supporting the implementation of three new national parks, at Samur Yalama in Azerbaijan and in the Shirak and Javakheti regions of Armenia and Georgia. We have assisted the ministries with the tendering the national park projects and we are developing best practice guidelines for national park management, pasture land management and management of the support zones around the national parks. We are facilitating the establishment of a Transboundary Coordination Board to coordinate management of the Armenia and Georgia national parks as a transboundary protected area.
Supporting the Eco-regional Conservation Plan • In 2008, we will carry out a study of obstacles in regional and national development policies and programmes to achieving the vision of the Ecoregional Conservation Plan and finding ways in which the three countries can work together to overcome those barriers.
Embedding nature protection in spatial planning • We are collaborating with the Technical University of Berlin in a project to develop guidelines for landscape planning at rayon level drawing from experience in Germany.
Biosphere reserves • We are supporting the implementation of biosphere reserves in the three countries by transferring knowledge about the concept and the legal and institutional requirements. In a later phase we will facilitate the establishment of national Man and Biosphere committees and coordination committees for the new biosphere reserves.
